Recycling Programs
Materials recycling at Intel is part of our corporate strategy to improve environmental sustainability. We have programs in place to collect and recycle wastewater, solid waste, and chemical waste, and we strongly encourage employees to participate and help discover new ways to expand our efforts.
Wastewater collection and recycling
Intel reclaims more than 3 billion gallons of wastewater each year, and we partner with experts to find new ways to conserve water in our manufacturing facilities. Each new Fab has a wastewater collection system with a separate drain system for collecting lightly contaminated water. This enables us to recycle the water for use in our facility equipment, such as cooling towers and scrubbers.
Packing supply recycling
Intel's reuse of packing supplies diverted more than 110 tons of material from landfills.
Global solid waste recycling
Intel continues to maintain a high rate of solid waste recycling. Globally, we recycled 81 percent of our solid waste in 2007. We have implemented several programs focused on sustainable practices and waste reduction.
Composting program
We composted 80 tons of food waste at two Intel sites.
Chemical waste recycling
In 2007, Intel recycled or directly reused 87 percent of our chemical waste, exceeding our goal of 80 percent. Our overall amount of chemical waste decreased 12 percent from 2006 to 2007.
Recycling partnerships
Managing e-waste is a shared responsibility. Intel works with OEMs and retailers to responsibly manage and recycle unwanted electronic equipment.
