Business Continuity

As a global corporation with locations and suppliers all over the world, Intel faces a wide range of potential threats—everything from natural disasters to terrorist acts and cyber attacks. To protect the interests of our shareholders and customers, as well as the safety of our employees, we make business continuity planning a core business practice for all our operations, facilities, and programs.

Intel's crisis response capabilities

In the event of a business disruption, Intel's Business continuity plans enable us to continue critical business functions. This includes:

  • Invoking Emergency Operations Centers to respond to crises by site or at a corporate level.
  • Relocating impacted businesses to designated recovery locations and deploying redundant capacity.
  • Activating business continuity and technology teams to manage recovery.
  • Maintaining internal and external communications through a variety of media.

To ensure maximum readiness, our emergency response and recovery procedures are regularly audited and tested as part of a continuous improvement process.

Pandemic planning

Intel believes a pandemic represents enough of a special threat that it necessitates specific precautions and preparation.

  • Intel has developed pandemic response guidelines that include everything from hygiene procedures to point-of-entry screening, communications, and travel safety.
  • Intel requires all business units to complete drills based on a possible pandemic and to integrate improvements based on what's learned.

Employee personal preparedness

Our most valuable assets are our employees. Intel takes special steps to help them personally prepare for times of crisis.

  • Intel encourages and provides resources for employees and their families to prepare for emergencies through a Personal Readiness and Emergency Plan (PREP).
  • If an emergency occurs while employees are traveling for Intel, the travel office helps route their travel and bring them home.
  • Intel provides employees short-term, no-cost, professional counseling services after a crisis.

Intel business continuity in action

Intel's business continuity program has proven itself numerous times in real-world tests. Examples include:

  • The 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict (Intel has campuses and fabs in Israel)
  • Hurricane Katrina (2005)
  • A 2006 subcontractor fire in Taiwan

After every crisis, Intel business continuity teams analyze the event, seeking ways to improve our readiness and response. Intel also regularly holds business continuity forums, inviting companies both within and outside our industry to share their approach and insights on business continuity.
