Intel had another outstanding year in terms of reducing injuries to employees in the workplace. Over the past three years, the Company has reduced the OSHA-recordable injury rate an average of 37% each year and the lost-day case rate an average of 41% each year. Recordable injury rates for new-construction contractors during the same period have been reduced an average of 34% each year. Several organizations worked injury-free in 1997.
By applying Intel's leadership in designing for safety and the environment, we were able to announce achievement of improved environmental performance goals concurrently with the announcement of our new 0.25-micron manufacturing process for microprocessors. By designing in superior environmental performance, we ensure that improvements in resource use, emissions and energy consumption are carried through to all future manufacturing processes.
