Research and Innovation Overview

Technology innovation that starts with people

How can fresh approaches and innovative technologies improve health and healthcare?

At Intel, the answers to that question start with efforts to deeply understand people's needs, values, and practices. Since we began investigating health and healthcare in 1999 (PDF 38KB), our ethnographic researchers have observed and interacted with more than 1000 households and 150 hospitals and clinics in 20 countries.

Our multidisciplinary health research and innovation teams span 2 continents and work globally. They unite:

  • Anthropologists, psychologists, and other social scientists who conduct field research to identify unmet human needs related to aging, health, and healthcare
  • Design researchers, human factor engineers, and industrial designers who invent new interfaces and form factors for managing health, and wellness
  • Engineers who build, demonstrate, and evaluate new technologies in real-world settings to determine their usefulness, effectiveness, and acceptance

In collaboration with universities and other stakeholders around the world, we are developing practical technologies and building a research ecosystem based on an integrated understanding of people, practices, and business needs across the continuum of care—from hospital to clinic to ambulance to home.
