Best of Breed Certified Ecosystem
Technology partners and system integrators
Many in the industry who are already familiar with the healthcare interoperability problem agree that the availability of semantically normalized and aggregated clinical data will create new efficiencies through the reduction of medical errors, adverse drug interactions, redundant testing and unnecessary admissions. Providing the patient's electronic health record (EHR) at the point of care—the right data, to the right clinical personnel, at the right time—increases both the quality and the efficiency of care. Today this is only rarely achieved when individual providers invest in very complex systems integration projects.
The Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare (Intel® SOAE-H) is designed to reduce the cost and complexity of deploying Healthcare Information Exchanges (HIEs). To date, there has been significant cost in custom software development for the exchange of healthcare systems. Most of this cost has been represented in significant spending for system integration. This cost is prohibitive due to the N2 problem that is characteristic of the healthcare domain. Solutions based on adaptors or Enterprise Service Bus-style solutions only serve to mitigate the complexity rather than help solve the problem. The Intel SOAE-H offers XML acceleration, codeless design, and increased manageability by forming and joining HIEs through specific pre-built services and ecosystem adaptors for common healthcare services found in an HIE. The ultimate goal of the Intel SOAE-H is to accelerate the adoption of HIEs worldwide by moving the cost calculation from proprietary work to a repeatable product-based solution.
- Examples of supported usage models:
Multi-Provider Care in the Intel SOAE-H is the electronic exchange of patient history, clinical orders, and encounters (such as visit or discharge summaries) across a network containing varied clinical system vendors. This allows for multi-party, multi-vendor implementations of e-prescriptions, lab (like PACS) data sharing, and referrals.
- Longitudinal Health Record in Intel SOAE-H is the high-speed sharing of targeted and critical-need patient data (such as allergies, current medications, and chronic conditions) in emergency care situations to be available across a network of providers including emergency facilities, primary care physicians, pharmacies, and more.

Benefits of the Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare
- Enables data to flow between hospitals, payors, and Healthcare Information Networks at a relatively low cost with a short time to market and high flexibility
- Improved data flow exponentially increases the value of EMR driving an increase in the rate of EMR adoption
- Reduction in SI costs increase sales volume of core product
- Decreases in support/SI requirements enables the same resources to cover more accounts
