The Intel Involved program is active in more than 40 countries and available to all employees. The program is designed to encourage, support, and recognize employees who volunteer their time and talent to build strong communities that are socially inclusive, economically empowered, and environmentally sustainable.

Community engagement managers partner with nonprofits, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and schools to identify and develop volunteer opportunities that meet community needs. Intel employees can volunteer as individuals or in teams, pursuing a personal passion or joining colleagues for a team-building project that enables them to work with one another in new ways. Our employees volunteer on their own time and, with management support, during work hours.

A key adjunct of the Intel Involved program is the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program (IIMGP), which awards cash grants to organizations based on the number of hours that Intel employees volunteer. The Intel Foundation, which funds these grants, has donated more than $26 million in matching volunteer grants to community organizations and schools around the world since 1995. All active employees worldwide are eligible to participate. All US-based 501(c)(3) public charities are eligible for matching grants and schools must be accredited nonprofit organizations. In Europe and the rest of the world, NGOs confirmed to have charitable equivalency as defined by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service are eligible.

Intel employees are encouraged to take the initiative in volunteering, much as they are in their day-to-day work. At the corporate level, Intel supports employee volunteer projects through a seed funding program. At the local level, regional and local CSR departments actively organize and support a wide variety of employee volunteering activities.

A new worldwide program established in 2010 to support employee volunteer projects by providing kick-off grants from the Intel Foundation. Preference is given to projects that involve teams of employees, have a measurable community impact and are innovative.

Intel Volunteering Activities in Europe
Ordinary people helping build a better world

Following are examples of volunteer activities that Intel employees have recently undertaken around Europe. For more information about these and other activities.

Ireland – Hosting Chernobyl children
For three weeks every summer, children from Southern Belarus, the region affected by the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster, are hosted by families in Ireland as part of an annual health holiday organized by the Chernobyl Children’s Appeal, Lucan Group. Intel Ireland employees took part in this charitable event by arranging a day of fun at an amusement park for the visiting children. In addition to the time given by Intel volunteers to the group, it will also receive a matching grant from the Intel Foundation.

Russia – Helping the victims of forest fires
July 2010 was the hottest month in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod in 130 years of recorded history. More than 300,000 acres of land burned as a result of a record heat wave and severe drought. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, one of the worst hit, wildfires destroyed hundreds of houses and killed more than 30 people .Intel employees started a charity drive to collect donations for those who lost everything in the fires. Intel employees donated clothes, food and daily necessities, which were all sent to those who in need.

The Netherlands – Promoting Internet safety
Intel partnered with local organizations and schools to roll out a website building program designed to raise kids’ awareness of personal safety when it comes to surfing the Internet. More than 700 volunteer hours, funding, laptops and PC donations helped to support charity, cultural, educational and other organizations.

UK – Supporting varied community groups
Almost 40% of Intel UK employees donated a total of 4,000 hours of their time to a range of volunteer activities such as clearing ground to create outdoor environments for the disabled and developing websites and marketing programs for charities. The UK team also donated 257 used notebook computers to local schools and charities and were very active in fundraising for dozens of charities.

Germany – Helping children get homework assistance
More than €4,500 raised by Intel employees for the Arche in Munich—a nongovernmental organization—is just one among many meaningful donations made by Intel employees. This contribution will permit children with learning difficulties to receive assistance with their homework from teachers.

Belgium – Building equipment for special needs children
Intel Belgium employees designed and built four portable cloakrooms for mentally and physically handicapped children at a not-for-profit riding school outside of Brussels.

Ireland – Cycling for local and international charities
Each year, Intel Ireland chooses one or two signature charities and organizes volunteer events to raise funds for them. The 2010 Cycling Challenge, in which Intel volunteers from Intel Leixlip rode their bicycles for 40km, 80k, or 160km, raised £25,000 for Barretstown , which offers therapeutic recreation programs for seriously ill children and their families, and for the A-Z Children's Charity , which provides healthcare, education, food, clothing and shelter to Ugandan HIV/AIDS infected and affected orphans and vulnerable children.

Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Northern Ireland & Russia – Bringing technology to youth
Intel volunteers help out at Intel Computer Clubhouses, enabling youth in underserved areas to access cutting-edge technology

Germany – Improving access to teachers
Volunteers raised > €4,500 to help the Arche NGO enable children with learning difficulties to receive teacher assistance.

UK – Enriching teachers’ understanding of technology frontiers
Intel Swindon hosted 45 school high school teachers for a day of IT immersion, during which the teachers were introduced to some of the leading edge computer and communications areas. The educators explored different opportunities and ways to open their students’ minds to IT education and careers.

Netherlands – Expanding computer access at a very special school
An Intel employee whose son learns at a special school for autistic children discovered that the school had expanded into two buildings 3km apart but had computers in only one building. The employee identified 20 desktop computers available for donation from Intel and through his personal Intel Involved project enlisted a group of volunteers to install the computers and set up a virtual private network (VPN), providing computer access across the two buildings.

Poland – Inspiring young programmers
As a part of their voluntary activities, a group of Intel Gdansk engineers and administration staff organized a programming contest for 7 to 10 year-old children. Over 250 kids from local Gdansk primary schools took part, and the 24 finalists toured the Intel site and participated in a multi-cultural video conference that introduced them to aspects of African Indian and British culture

France – Opening the world of IT to special needs children
Volunteers at Intel Paris welcomed nine high school students to the Intel campus as part of the “One day, one job” initiative of the IMS- Entreprendre Association. Visiting Intel, the children, from “special needs areas”, were introduced to the professional world and were able to see that social origins are not a handicap to pursuing careers in IT and other professions.

UK –Green Team promotes environmentally responsible living and working
Volunteers at Intel Swindon have organized and promoted an annual Green Day every years since 2008. Their award-winning efforts focus on spreading the word on how to reduce waste and save energy both in the workplace and at home.
