Achievement
I harnessed 50 thousand computers and people to create an endlessly morphing abstract animation, a new kind of visual music. Doing this with one computer would have taken hundreds of years, but everybody working together by the Internet makes it practical.
I'm proud that it allows people to appreciate the beauty of mathematics and evolution. Not to read about it, but to do it, see it, and feel it.
It's notable because all the time I hear from people about how happy it makes them, and that makes me happy too. What I do that's special is give the computer its own voice.
Inspiration
The possibility of all matter, thinking and working together.
Insight
I've learned proprietary software is trumped by scalability and portability.
My tip is to stand on the shoulders of giants and, more importantly: to be a giant, and let others stand on you. That means use and participate in open source culture and the creative commons.
The best thing about computers is, there's an army of geniuses making them cheaper and faster every year.
Dream
My goal is to bring computers to life.
I hope that computers will help everybody be creative. Part of what I'm doing is creating tools for other people to create their own art.
