Sustainable South Bronx

Achievement

The Bronx Environmental Stewardship Training program (B.E.S.T.). After four years, we maintain an 85% job placement rate with 75% of those graduates in green-collar fields. 10% have gone on to college. Over 90% of our students were on some form of public assistance prior to graduation and job placement. I have to travel around the country and the world to raise money and learn from the examples of others. Staying connected with the office and my community through my MacBook* makes it possible for me to carry the message and maintain the vision that is green for all.

Insight

The best thing about computers is that they get cheaper and cheaper – meaning more and more access for people formerly on the wrong side of the digital divide. They are also getting more energy-efficient which means less power plant pollution in poor communities where these facilities are located.
