Improving Science & Math Teaching for the 21st CenturyImproving Science & Math Teaching for the 21st Century

"From mathematics and the sciences will come the products, services, standards of living, and economic and military security that will sustain us at home and around the world. Form them will come the technological creativity American companies need to compete effectively in the global marketplace."

In September of 2000, The National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century, headed by former Senator John Glenn, presented to the U.S. Secretary of Education a report entitled "Before it's Too Late." The Report contained a conviction, a warning, and a series of recommendations.

"...the Commission is convinced," the report said, "that the future well-being of our nation and people depends not just on how well we educate our children generally, but on how well we educate them in mathematics and science specifically."

The Report warned that U.S. students were falling dangerously behind their worldwide peers in math and science readiness.

And the report made a series of recommendations on how to improve math and science teaching for the 21st century.

As a leader in high-technology, Intel shares the Glenn Commission's convictions about the importance of math and science education, its concern about our national preparedness, and its commitment to solutions. We encourage those interested to download or order the Glenn Commission report. We should all do our part to see that its recommendations are implemented with all speed.
