Description
Technology-Supported Project Learning With It's a Wild Ride offers an
in-depth look into how a team of middle school teachers use technology to
support an interdisciplinary roller coaster design project. A video field trip
introduces the students and teachers at work in their math, science, and
language arts classrooms. Students take on authentic roles as engineers,
architects, public relations directors, and researchers preparing and
presenting a proposal for the ultimate amusement park ride.
Workshop participants explore the related Web resources that provide teachers
with a detailed project description, the sequence of learning activities,
assessments, effective uses of technology, student work samples, and more.
Through hands-on activities, workshop participants learn to engage students in
extended project work, meet content standards, use performance and traditional
assessments, and take advantage of team teaching opportunities. Participants
receive a copy of the video to take home and share with colleagues in content
or grade-level teams, lesson study groups, or informal discussions.
