Description
This presentation introduces school leaders and others to Design and Discovery,
a free program to interest youth (ages 11-14) in design and engineering. The
curriculum outlines a hands-on, inquiry-based experience with identifying and
designing creative solutions to problems in the designed and engineered world.
In a series of 18 sessions that are 2.5 hours, students follow a design process
that leads to building a working prototype of their idea. The Design and
Discovery Web resource provides the complete curriculum and additional
resources for implementing the program in a variety of contexts. The program is
appropriate for formal and informal settingssummer camp, after-school
enrichment, a science class, or as an elective class at a middle school.
