The Computer Clubhouse* program is a major effort to provide "digital
opportunities" to those who otherwise might not have them. Each community-based
organization that is selected to host a Computer Clubhouse is chosen, in part,
because of its ability to provide services to youth in underserved communities.
The Computer Clubhouse program was created in 1993 by the MIT Media Lab and the
Computer Museum, now part of the Museum of Science, Boston. In 1997, the
program was awarded the prestigious Peter F. Drucker Award for Nonprofit
Innovation for making a difference in the lives of the people it serves, having
measurable outcomes, and providing an innovative model that could be replicated
by others. In 2000, Intel initiated a partnership with the Museum of Science,
the MIT Media Lab, industry partners, and nonprofit organizations to support
the establishment of Computer Clubhouses in underserved neighborhoods around
the world.
Sponsors and additional support
The Intel Computer Clubhouse Network has been supported through the very generous
contributions of a number of companies and organizations.
