Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) are increasingly being used to provide digital security surveillance and video imaging in a variety of environments. Approximately one million DVR units were sold in China alone in 2003, with local experts calling for an annual growth rate of 30%. |

Digital security surveillance and video imaging are increasingly used to help security efforts in both indoor and outdoor environments. Application settings vary widely and can include banks, prisons, public and private enterprises, financial centers, storage and warehouse compounds, shopping centers, and even small retailers. Today's DSS solutions must vary to meet the different needs of these environments, with DVRs that provide a range of video capturing channels (8-32) and a variety of image quality, performance and storage features. Solution providers often build customized systems to deliver the right combination of channels and features required for each application setting. But such customized development is costly, time-consuming and lacks the flexibility needed to adapt to changing security concerns. |

Rather than build stand-alone boards for each unique DSS solution, EVOC opted for a single, industrial-grade, full-size CPU computation card that could scale as needed for all solutions across the DSS segment. In combination with a scalable chassis with back-plane, the solution can grow to support any number of video capturing channels. Using embedded Intel® Architecture for the CPU, EVOC can choose from Intel's full line of embedded processors and chipsets to scale the performance without changing the board design. |
