Free internet phone calls, full high-fidelity multimedia streams and remote control…all on your iPod*?

HCV Wireless Pty Ltd. ,with its headquarters in Queensland, Australia and a finalist in the Showcase, proposed and built just that. By employing MP3 telephony (the pre-recording of DTMF tone sequences in MP3 format) on an iPod fitted with a wireless relay, a cordless telephony connection can be established with HCV's BlueMod Intelligent Wireless Access Point (IWAP). The IWAP runs the necessary protocols to connect to the iPod wireless relay and establish a telephony connection over the Internet or PSTN to any other telephony device such as mobile networks, PSTN, internet, Skype* or VoIP.

The IWAP can also connect to other WAPs using P2P technologies which opens the door to full multimedia streaming protocols for voice, video and stereo audio.

The IWAP has additional inputs and outputs for actuating relays and remote devices along with inputs for sensing the status of a remote device.

Using the iPod as the user interface to HCV's IWAP was a natural for this concept because it plays MP3s, has a display, is small and lightweight and enjoys a hefty market penetration worldwide.

Utilizing Intel's IXP4XX was another natural when HCV built their BlueMod IWAP. It's built on proven, standardized architecture in a small form factor which offers flexible application development to third party manufacturers.
