Intel® EP80219 Development Board
Overview Tools & Software Where to buy

A production-ready embedded development system for the Intel® 80219 General Purpose PCI Processor

Processor: 600 MHz Intel® 80219 General Purpose PCI Processor

  • Intel XScale® technology
  • PCI – local memory bus address translation unit
  • Messaging unit
  • Direct Memory Access (DMA) controller
  • Peripheral bus interface unit
  • Integrated memory controller
  • Performance monitor
  • Two I2C bus interface units
  • Eight General Purpose Input Output (GPIO) ports
  •

    Memory

  • RAM: DIMM slot accepts 64-bit DDR SDRAM (100 MHz, 184-pin, ECC DDRAM). The board ships with 128 megabytes.
  • ROM: 16 megabytes of Intel StrataFlash® memory (J3) is installed, and CompactFlash* (CF) port can be used for expansion.
  • NVRAM: 44 bytes of non-volatile RAM are available for user programs in the battery-backed Real-Time Clock (RTC).
  •

    Ethernet

  • Intel® 82551ER Integrated 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet Controller provides a single Ethernet port. The RedBoot* Monitor can use this port for TFTP transfer of user code, or for GDB debugging support.
  •

    Debug support

  • Serial: The onboard UART is used for the RedBoot* Console. Connect using 115200, n, 8,1 with no flow control.
  • JTAG: A 20-pin ARM* standard connector can be used for software debug and Flash programming.
  •

    Onboard peripherals

  • SATA: An Intel® 31244 PCI-X to Serial ATA Controller provides four ports for connecting SATA Disk Drives, providing an economical but extremely powerful system for NAS development.
  • Power Control: A PIC16F819* 20-pin Flash microcontroller is used on this board to monitor the Front-Panel (FP) switch to allow users to perform an orderly shutdown of their application code. This chip can also control several of the board LEDs, using ATX P.S., PIC powered by auxiliary power (+5Vaux).
  • Temperature Sensor: The Serial Temperature and Thermal Monitor (STTM) part is a 2-wire, digital temperature sensor. Its functionality is equivalent to the LM75* part.
  • Real-Time Clock: The Serial Real-Time Clock (SRTC) provides clock and calendar functions for the board. The part is a 2-wire, low-power SRTC with a built-in 32.768 KHz oscillator.
  • Mini-PCI Expansion Connector: This connector on the bottom of the board provides the user with the capability to add a PCI card to this board.
  •

    Power

  • 5-Volt Supply: The board ships with a +5V, 4A PSU unit, and plugs into the barrel connector. This can also be used to supply power to a 2.5-inch laptop SATA drive, typically 1A.
  • ATX Connector: This connector and an external ATX power supply should be used whenever this board is used with more than one +5V drive, with any drive requiring +12V, or when control of primary power by PIC is required.

    Complementary products

The Intel® 80219 General Purpose PCI Processor is a more fully featured version of this board. It adds a PCI-X bridge, PCI-X expansion connector, an additional four SATA ports, and the 10/100 Ethernet is replaced by a dual GbE device. The IQ80219 also comes with JTAG hardware and software tools from Macraigor Systems and a fully licensed copy of Mentor Graphics code|lab* IDE and debugger.
