Duration of word/byte program/erase timing specs for 4-Mbit SmartVoltage Boot Block Family

Stepping: All

Abstract: This document discusses duration of maximum and minimum word/byte program/erase timing specs for 4-Mbit SmartVoltage Boot Block Family.

Problem: In current documentation, minimum time for Twhq1, Twhq2, Twhq3 is provided, but the maximum time is missing in the AC Characteristics table (Table 14).

Solution: The Twhq specs measure the minimum time it takes to complete the operation. This is useful so a designer can know how long they should wait before checking the status register for a completed operation. In effect, it says that no operation will ever finish before this minimum amount of time. The maximum timings are listed in a separate table (Table 16) which lists maximum prog/erase times. Maximum time for boot block and parameter block erasure is 7 seconds. The maximum time for byte/word program, which is not in the datasheet, is 100us for all blocks and for all valid Vcc\Vpp combinations.
