Intel® Innovation in Education in Ireland
Intel® Teach to the Future
Students at Intel ISEFIntel Ireland launched the Intel® Teach to the Future program for secondary educators in 2000, in local partnership with the Department of Education and Science. In 2002, the program was expanded to serve primary and pre-service educators.

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
Intel Ireland has sent teams of young people to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) for the last five years. Teams are selected locally based on their performance in national science competitions. Intel Ireland is a major sub-sponsor of the ESAT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. This national competition celebrates its 40th birthday in 2005. Last year over 2,000 students participated, with over 700 projects ranging from Alpha Networking solutions to the science of skateboarding. The Intel Excellence in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics prize goes to the best individual or group in that category and the prize is an all expenses paid trip to Intel ISEF. This year's winning project, Minimum Number of Moves Needed to Solve a Rubik's Cube, came from the Institute of Education, Dublin. The three winning students, Louise Sullivan, Edward Naughten, Ciaran McNamee, and their teacher Úna Finn went to Intel ISEF in Kentucky, USA in May, 2002 to represent Ireland.

Intel also supports the Young Innovators Competition in Northern Ireland. The winners of the technology section, along with their teacher, receive an all expenses paid trip to Intel ISEF. Last year, three young students from Belfast and the County Derry winners of the Intel Ireland prize won third place in the team projects at Intel ISEF 2001.

Support for Research
Intel Ireland supports postgraduate research through the funding of students pursuing project-based masters and doctorates. Projects are selected based on the relevance of the research to technology at Intel Ireland. An Intel engineer acts as technical mentor to a student undertaking the research and monitors each project. The scholarships are offered to full-time postgraduate students in the following disciplines: engineering, applied science, and computer science.

Continuing Education
The practical difficulties of working full-time and attending college part-time are well recognized. Intel, in partnership with Dublin City University, offered two Web-delivered technology programs; a certificate and a masters program in plasma and vacuum systems.

Kids at Intel Computer Clubhouse

Richard left school when he was 11 years old, footloose and unsure about his future but determined to make music. Now 15, Richard has ambitions to run his own record company or to be involved in the entertainment industry. He credits this new focus and commitment to his active participation in Dublin's Intel Computer Clubhouse.

Recording and mixing his own music is just one success. Richard is also developing his own Web site and has discovered that he has real talent for graphic arts, animation, music, and Web design. When asked by a guest at the launch of the Clubhouse, "Where do you go to school?" he answered, "This is my school."

Richard doesn't have all the answers yet, but he does know that the skills he is learning and the personal growth he is achieving through the program will enable him to reach further than he ever thought possible.
