Light Peak

Another industry first

Developed by Intel (under the code name Light Peak), and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple, Thunderbolt™ technology is a new, high-speed I/O technology designed for performance, simplicity, and flexibility.

Thunderbolt™ technology lets you

  • Simultaneously transfer data at high speeds to and from different types of external devices, such as external graphics adapters, video and audio editors, storage devices, and more, so you can expand the capabilities – and performance – of your PC quickly and easily
  • Use PCI Express*and DisplayPort*-based devices on the same cable, such as TV tuners, video/audio capture cards and devices, HD monitors, etc.
  • Keep using your existing DisplayPort*-based devices; no need to upgrade with Thunderbolt™ technology
  • Daisy-chain multiple devices with a single cable, making it easy to connect storage devices, high-performance graphics adapters, video and audio editors, and other innovative new products based on PCI Express and DisplayPort protocols as they become available
