Part ofthe EEPROM isused for hardware configuration, whilepart of theEEPROM space is read byIntel-supplied driversandotherconfigurationsoftware to determine and configure features specificto that design. Forcompatibility, Intel does not createseparate drivers for the 82559ER controllers. The 82559ER auto-detectstheEEPROM size via a dummyzero mechanism following reset. All accesses, readandwrite, are precededbya commandinstructionto the EEPROM. The commandinstructions begin with alogical one as Read the full 82559ER EEPROM Map and Programming Information.
