The Intel® 5500 series of chipsets supports the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series, as well as the 32nm high-k Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series, and features support for the Intel® QuickPath Architecture allowing for exceptional bandwidth for I/O in addition to advanced virtualization support with Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) for Directed I/O (Intel® VT-d).
The Intel 5500 series of chipsets supports Intel® QuickPath Interconnects at 6.4 GT/s, 5.86 GT/s, and 4.8 GT/s speeds. Additionally, this chipset delivers up to dual x16 or quad x8 PCI Express* 2.0 card support, and support for Intel® High Performance Solid-State Drives on ICH10 and ICH10R.

|Intel® Trusted Execution Technology (Intel® TXT)||When used with a TXT-enabled hypervisor or operating system, Intel® TXT provides hardware-based foundations for the verification of the system launch environment while supporting system RAS capabilities. This incremental protection helps to reduce the threat of emerging malware attacks, enhances compliance initiatives, and extends control of the software environment.
Support for Intel TXT is platform dependant. Intel TXT requires an Intel® 5500 or 5520 chipset, an Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series, a TXT-enabled BIOS, and a supported Trust Platform Module (TPM) on the platform to function.
