The desktop virtualization team at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center realizes desktop virtualization benefits by using client virtualization as a way to address IT consumerization while improving enterprise security and costs in the healthcare environment. Wake Forest Baptist conducted a recent proof of concept using Citrix XenClient*, Citrix XenDesktop*, and Microsoft Windows* App-V* with Intel® Core™ i5 vPro™ processors to explore use cases for client virtualization and match them to users’ work requirements. In this case study, Whited and her team discuss their approach and share key learnings from the POC. Some of biggest aha’s: There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and not every user will benefit from a virtualized desktop. The team is preparing a pilot to further explore desktop virtualization use cases, analyze infrastructure build-out costs, and elicit user feedback.
