Managing an Intelligent Desktop Virtualization Environment

For some, intelligent desktop virtualization (IDV) has its limits. In this blog post from IT Business Edge, author Michael Vizard takes a look at a different approach from Wanova that is designed to change that. The challenge is that while many find IDV to be cost-effective from an infrastructure perspective, according to Vizard, “they argue that most existing IDV offerings do little to reduce the management cost associated with PC environments, which over time is the single biggest expense associated with any PC environment.” This is where Wanova comes in.

Wanova, a provider of a desktop virtualization and management platform, offers an approach to IDV that makes it easier for IT organizations to centralize PC management. It’s based on the ability to split Microsoft* Windows* into multiple virtual layers. With the Wanova* Mirage* platform, IT organizations can continue to run applications and user data locally, while the Windows base layer, driver library, and department application layer is managed and run centrally.
