Digital radio improves spectrum usage efficiency by adding more channels on the same frequency. For example, a HD Radio station can have up to 8 digital channels on the same frequency thus reaching an expanded audience by offering a variety of programming choices. Similarly, a DAB+ ensemble delivers typically 20 programs and capable of streaming up to 128 digital channels. Broadcast radio remains free-to-air.
