Celebrating women, energizing the movement

Celebrating women, energizing the movement

March is a big month for girls and women. For starters, it’s Women’s History Month, and in 2012, the theme focuses on women's education and empowerment. March 8th also marks the 101st year of International Women’s Day with the theme Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures.

Building on these events, the Women in the World Summit takes place March 8–10. On March 10, Intel hosts a panel focused on the importance of educating girls throughout the world. Shelly Esque, Vice President and Global Director of Corporate Affairs at Intel, discusses the significant barriers women face and the substantial gender differences in the use of and access to technology around the world.

Tremendous opportunity exists to bridge the gender and technology divide. The panel will explain how Intel’s targeted programs help women and girls build life skills, as well as the impact technology is making on education, business literacy, and entrepreneurial success.

You can read the white paper from the panel discussion and follow a range of activities on the International Women’s Day Facebook page.

Closing the gap

Closing the gap

Technology cannot be a scarce resource available only to some. Access to education and technology must become a global, fundamental right for girls and women. Intel technology-based programs in education and digital literacy are empowering women around the world and the impact is clear:

  • They gain the skills to become more self-confident and productive.
  • They access and generate new sources of prosperity, and invest it in the health, education, and well-being of their families and communities.
  • They reach out to help others move forward, initiating escalating cycles of empowerment.
  • Employment and entrepreneurship increase significantly.
  • Poverty decreases, GDP increases, and positive global change results.

Educating girls, empowering women

Educating girls, empowering women

Innovative educational programs can provide girls with the opportunities for quality education and personal growth through technology access, scholarships, and community learning programs. Through programs such as the Intel® Learn Program and the Intel® Computer Clubhouse Network (ICCN), girls gain the skills to become the next generation of leaders.

When women receive training in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and business skills, they can elevate themselves professionally and break through barriers to personal economic growth. Read the Intel® Easy Steps case study to learn how digital workshops and other programs allow them to tap their full potential.

Teachers making a difference

Teachers making a difference

Over the past 12 years, Intel has trained more than 10 million teachers, including an estimated 5 million female teachers, in 70 countries. The Intel® Teach Program helps teachers become more effective educators by training them in ways to integrate technology into their lessons as a means of helping their students to develop the problem-solving, critical-thinking, and collaboration skills needed to succeed in the global economy.
