Tim Plowman holds a doctorate in anthropology from University of California Berkeley. His area of expertise lies in the application of ethnographic techniques in order to understand human behavior relative to technology. His current focus is managing a multi-disciplinary team of researchers in Intel Labs analyzing and innovating in the transportation space. His team’s expertise is in creating compelling experiences across geographic, economic, and institutional contexts with the goal of contributing to the development of appropriate technologies that deploy effective supports and interventions while people are mobile.
He also focuses on understanding the interactive relationship among the assumptions that are embedded in material objects (technology, built environments, tools, personal artifacts, etc.), social theory, and transportation habits and practices. He holds numerous patents and has published broadly. He has taught at the Art Center College of Design, UC at Berkeley, and Santa Clara University.
