Russian Federal Blood Centre turns to Intel® vPro™ technology to overhaul hospital information systems
The Russian Federal Blood Centre manages regional and local blood donorship centers across 83 regions of Russia. A network ties these centers together, with approximately 2000 PCs connected to the network. This technology foundation is the platform from which the center’s operations are carried out. These include managing a donor database as well as blood and blood components. Efficient data transmission is essential to its operations. Breakdowns in communication via PCs could have serious consequences for those in need of blood transfusions. As the result, the organization introduced Intel® vPro™ technology to provide centralized and remote PC control over the entire network.
Challenges:
• High costs and large distances. Local blood donorship centres have 20 to 40 computers, little professional IT support, long distances between centres and high outsourcing costs
• Management dilemmas. It was hard to upgrade PC hardware and provide software updates as well as take inventories
• Personal protection. Need to establish a means by which personal and medical data was protected in compliance with legislation
Solutions:
• Comprehensive remote management: Approximately 2000 PCs powered by the Intel® vPro™ technology enabled the IT department to remotely manage computers from the Moscow Centre
• 24/7 operations: Intel vPro technology supported remote PC troubleshooting, hardware support and remote software upgrades.
