Enjoying life in Singapore

Singapore, Southeast Asia's high-tech city-state, encompasses one main island linked by a causeway to the southern tip of Malaysia. Singapore, with a population of 4 million, is famous for its cleanliness and economic tenacity, and enjoys one of the world's highest standards of living. Once a colonial outpost, Singapore has developed into one of the world's most prosperous places, with glittering skyscrapers and a thriving port. Its primary exports are now computer equipment, machinery, and rubber and petroleum products.

Singapore is a city for food lovers. It's easy to find a wide variety of cuisines from regions of China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Western Middle Eastern countries. It's a burgeoning arts center and shopping paradise, where you can see internationally celebrated musical performances and more. During June and July, "Great Singapore Sale" is held, during which all major retailers offer special discounts on a wide range of merchandise, including designer goods. There are many cinemas for watching the latest films and plenty of nightlife options throughout the area.

Thanks to Singapore's consistent tropical climate and abundant humidity, water sports are popular for most of the year. Other attractions include the National Museum, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, the Zoo, Bird Park, and the Science Centre; also Mount Faber Park, one of Singapore's oldest parks, which is just a cable-car ride away from the popular and scenic Sentosa Island.
