Optimizing the Android* Platform for Intel® Atom™ Processor-based Systems
The Intel® Atom™ processor E3800 product family (formerly Bay Trail), offers a range of multi-core system-on-chip (SoC) options. Based on industry-leading 22-nm process technology, these SoCs integrate the Intel® architecture core, graphics, memory, and I/O interfaces into a one-chip solution that delivers outstanding compute, graphics, and media performance.
Intel Optimizations for the Android* Software Stack
Through the Android Open Source Project, Intel has introduced a number of optimizations that allow developers to create high-performance, visually compelling Android applications that run on Intel architecture, including:
- Device drivers that are validated and power- and memory-optimized for the x86 architecture.
- Optimizations to the core libraries and kernel.
- Performance enhancements to the Davlik* virtual machine for Intel architecture-based processors.
- Tools for the Android NDK to compile native C/C++ code for the x86 architecture.
Android Board Support Packages (BSPs)
Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and 4.4 (KitKat) are supported on the Intel Atom processor E3800 product family. Distribution and support of Intel’s BSPs for Android are available from the following Intel® ecosystem vendors:
