Paging-based protection mechanisms are preferred over solutions based on segmentation, because the same code running with non-zero segment base registers values can experience a delay in the access operations on the system memory. When segmentation is needed by design, good coding techniques and the use of compilers optimized for the Intel® Atom™ microarchitecture can significantly improve performance.
