The world is in the midst of a dramatic transformation from isolated systems to Internet-enabled devices that can network and communicate with each other and the cloud.
Commonly referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT), this new reality is being driven by the convergence of increasingly connected devices, cloud economics for compute and data, and the acceleration of big data analytics.
The shift is generating unprecedented opportunities that can be seized right now by companies to develop new services, enhance productivity and efficiency, improve real-time decision making, solve critical problems, and develop new and innovative user experiences.
To address the market for IoT, Intel is focused on accelerating the development and deployment of intelligent devices, creating systems of systems by connecting legacy devices to the cloud and enabling end-to-end analytics to transform business.
An end-to-end strategy requires making devices more intelligent and secure to reliably filter and manage data locally. Intel offers a scalable roadmap of products to power devices at the edge of the network, from the energy-efficient Intel® Quark SoC X1000 to high-performance Intel® Xeon® processors.
Quark processor X1000
The low-power, small-core Intel Quark SoC X1000 product family will enable Intel to extend into new and rapidly growing IoT markets. Its processor core is a 32-bit, single-core, single-thread Intel® Pentium® instruction set architecture (ISA)-compatible CPU operating at speeds up to 400MHz.
Intel® Atom™ processor E3800
The Intel® AtomTM processor E3800 product family features enhanced media and graphics performance, error correcting code, industrial temperature range, built-in security, and integrated image signal processing. These features help reduce time-to-market, accelerate data-intensive applications and reduce energy consumption. Learn more >
Connectivity is imperative to realizing the power of IoT. The opportunities are drawn directly from the insights made possible when systems of intelligent devices are connected to each other or the network. However, as more than 85 percent of existing devices are based on legacy systems, solutions need to address interoperability as an interim step to avoid replacing all existing infrastructure.
Intel addresses this challenge with a new family of intelligent gateway solutions that connect legacy systems and provide common interfaces and seamless communication between devices and the cloud, targeting industrial, energy, and transportation markets. This system of systems helps ensure that the data generated by devices and existing infrastructure can be shared securely between the cloud and intelligent devices for analysis.
The new family of intelligent gateway solutions based on Intel architecture provides integrated and pre-validated hardware and software, including McAfee Embedded Control* and the Wind River Intelligent Device Platform*, to help develop, prototype, and deploy application services faster so companies can focus on adding new value-added services. The intelligent gateway products enable users to securely aggregate, filter and share data from the edge to the cloud. Primary usage models include monitoring high-value industrial assets and facilitating manufacturing automation, energy grid automation, and commercial fleet monitoring.
The enormous volumes of data generated and shared across intelligent devices and systems can now be analyzed, and the untapped value extracted to serve the business. This enables companies to provide better products and services enabling new business models and enriched consumer experiences.
Intel is delivering a comprehensive portfolio of hardware and software products designed to unlock the data intelligence from the device through the network to the cloud. By developing horizontal building blocks for vertical end-to-end analytics, as well as distributed analytics for edge systems and the datacenter, Intel is enabling companies to turn big data into actionable information.
