Intel Corporation, Barneys New York*, the Council of Fashion Designers of America*, and Opening Ceremony* are collaborating to explore and bring to market smart wearable technology, and to increase dialogue and cooperation between the fashion and technology industries.
It is Intel’s belief that in order for consumers to wear technology it not only should be functional but also should be beautiful. In order to integrate the beautiful design, it was Intel’s strong belief that it must collaborate with an industry that understood and appreciated beautifully designed accessories that consumers would desire. The collaboration with the fashion industry across a design house with Opening Ceremony, a luxury retailer with Barneys New York, and a non-profit focused on advancing the fashion industry with the Council of Fashion Designers of America is a first of its kind to merge the expertise of two very distinct disciplines of technology and fashion. As a result, it will help realize the vision of prolific adoption of wearable technology.
“One of the greatest opportunities for wearable technology is to create and design a beautiful accessory that our customers want to wear. It is exciting to be part of an elite group of brands which bring wearable fashion to life.
In partnership with Intel, we are excited to announce that Barneys will be one of the first luxury retailers to merchandise a beautifully designed smart accessory from Opening Ceremony.”
— Daniella Vitale, COO of Barneys New York
“CFDA drives innovation in the fashion industry. As we look at the power of technology and its influence on fashion, we believe it is already a large part of the fashion industry’s creative process.
That’s why we are excited to announce a strategic partnership with Intel on wearable technology in which we will bring together unique strengths of the two industries—Intel, who delivers technological innovation across computing devices, and our members, who design clothing and accessories that are defining style and personality. The two together are a powerful combination.”
— Steven Kolb, CEO for Council of Fashion Designers of America
"Humberto and I have always allowed our curiosity to take us to uncharted waters. Since our early travels and shopping sprees in Asia, we've been keen on discovery.
This is an incredibly exciting and unique opportunity with Intel to bring our design vision to a wearable accessory that collides with Intel's state-of-the-art innovation with fashion.
We are diving in to embark on a journey with Intel and can’t wait to see where it will take us. Intel is a company that has powered our lives in countless ways and now we get to be a part of shaping the 21st century with them.”
— Carol Lim, Co-owner of Opening Ceremony
