Intel has a long history of commitment to the environment, a philosophy that began with our founder Gordon Moore. We are embracing the challenge of developing energy-efficient products—while reducing our environmental footprint—because we believe that innovation is key to a sustainable future for our planet.
Digital Efficiency features projects GE and Intel have implemented to demonstrate how the Internet of Things can be used in industrial applications. IoT technologies can be used to manage buildings operations, industrial operations, and transportation networks helping to optimize production, minimize operating costs, and conserve natural resources.
Given the growing demand for evermore powerful electronics, the increasing cost of energy, and the corresponding impact on the planet, each new generation of processors offers greater benefits to the consumer and the environment. Through our Design for the Environment principles, we strive to minimize the environmental impact of our products at all phases in their life cycle: development, production, use, and ultimate disposal. This, in turn, helps our customers reduce their energy costs and minimize their environmental impact.
At Intel, we continually strive to improve our operations and minimize our impact on the environment. In our view, a commitment to sustainability requires a broad portfolio of efforts. To this end, we pursue new ways to reduce emissions and improve energy management through conservation, renewable energy, efficient building design, and other efforts. Intel incorporates environmental performance goals throughout our operations.
We believe that engaging employees is key to achieving our environmental strategies and goals. Since 2008, we have linked a portion of every employee’s compensation to the achievement of environmental sustainability metrics. Through our Sustainability in Action program, we provide funding for employee sustainability projects at Intel and in the community. We recognize employees who help reduce our environmental impact at Intel or in the community each year through our Environmental Excellence Awards program. We also collaborate with partners to apply our technology to solve environmental challenges.
