The Next Web Insider
This Editor’s Pick article from Next Web features Graham Palmer, managing director for the UK and Ireland at Intel, discussing the unveiling of the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 and what it means from a server standpoint. “There’s an explosion of data and an explosion of devices connecting to the Internet. Our view is that by 2015, there will be something like 15 billion connected devices, with 3.1 billion people connected to the Internet,” explains Palmer. “There’s a direct correlation between this explosion of devices and the number of servers being deployed in the data centers to support them.” The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product family is expected to deliver significantly improved performance compared to the previous generation Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series. Intel hopes that this new server technology will power the next generation of storage and communications systems from vendors worldwide.
