The entire community (government, software providers, telecommunications partners, Intel, and J.P. Sá Couto) banded together to enable every child in Portugal, more than 500,000 in all, to receive an Intel classmate PC. Through the Magellan Initiative, Portugal is helping its children become more qualified and better able to compete in today’s knowledge economy.

RacingThePlanet* is an organization that challenges individuals to go beyond their current athletic frontiers while exploring the most remote landscapes and ancient cultures on the planet. How do participants blog and communicate with loved ones from the middle of the Gobi desert? RacingThePlanet* created a "CyberTent" by deploying Intel-powered classmate PCs at a staged camp along the course. The lightweight, low-cost, low-power, and rugged PCs proved to be an ingenious solution that brought tears to one participant’s eyes.
