The in-store experience gets up close and personal
Point of sale is moving away from passive marketing and promotions to engaging, two-way experiences that actively change shopping behavior. From the moment consumers enter a store to the point at which they make a purchase, new innovations enhance the variety, convenience, and personal service that motivate consumers to buy. Intel technology is driving this transformation.
Interactive point-of-sale technology is just one of the components of the Intel Connected Store model for better, more immersive retail experiences. To learn more, watch this Connected Store video, read about Intel's vision for retail, or explore developer resources for point-of-sale system design.
Computing intelligence throughout the store
Intel point-of-sale technology can take many forms. You’ll find it driving stand-alone point-of-sale kiosks, attracting shoppers to engaging multimedia endcap displays, extending merchandising through virtual touch-screen walls, and simplifying checkout via networked transaction devices. Retailers are even incorporating it into LCD screens mounted on shopping carts.
What do all these point-of-sale systems have in common? Whether they work independently or in concert, they can all intelligently engage consumers with targeted messages and incentives right where they are most likely to buy: when they are already in the store.
Combine online convenience with physical engagement
As far as convenience goes, online shopping delivers the ultimate to the consumer. But what it lacks is immediate gratification. Networked point-of-sale brings online shopping convenience in store, and combines it with the satisfaction of enjoying a purchase the same day, knowing that it fits correctly, and that it can be returned easily. This creates memorable experiences that will keep customers coming back again and again.
Manage systems and messages remotely
Connecting point-of-sale systems over a network offers several advantages:
Targeting and personalization. Similar to web-based shopping, point-of-sale systems connected to a network can provide customer reviews, identify return shoppers, and record shopping histories. Going one step further, Intel® AIM Suite technology gives retailers the power to anonymously identify the characteristics of each passing shopper and dynamically adapt marketing messages accordingly.
Remote management. Connecting networks with Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) allows retail administrators to manage all systems at once, reduce energy consumption, and take advantage of security and maintenance options such as system diagnosis.
Reduced energy and maintenance costs. Because systems can be managed remotely, retailers can turn off all POS systems overnight to increase energy savings. It also reduces the need for technicians to go on-site for system maintenance, lowering operational expenses for retailers.
