KL: Something in the Air
Danish local government launches multiple clouds on Intel® Xeon® processor 7500 series.
KL is a Danish local government organisation that represents the interests of 98 municipalities and their 800,000 employees. Formed in 1970,KL negotiates with central government on behalf of its stakeholders. It also informs each municipality about which IT systems should be implemented for local use. To ensure it meets government energy-efficiency targets, and has a platform for launching cloud-based services to the municipalities, KL has begun a data centre server refresh based on the Intel® Xeon® processor 7500 series.
Challenges
• Stringent targets: KL has to gain a 15 percent improvement in energy efficiency every year
• Online nation: Central government sets targets requiring all public service to be online by 2015
• A cloud thing: Wanted to launch multiple clouds that would host new online services for the country’s 98 municipalities
Solutions
• Testing: Benchmarked Intel® Xeon® processor 7500 series to evaluate its performance muscle
• Virtual reality: Aimed to establish virtualisation capability of Intel Xeon processor 7500series to see how viable it was for supporting cloud services
• Power: Assessed the energy consumption of Intel Xeon processor 7500 series to assess whether it could help meet stringent energy-efficiency target
