Environmental health & safety

When a company launches a giant construction project, safety can become a lesser priority than meeting deadlines. Not at Intel.

Outstanding safety performance and environmental excellence characterize Intel's manufacturing and assembly and test facilities worldwide. This is the result of a corporate culture that consistently makes safety the first priority.

In Vietnam, Saigon High Tech Park (SHTP) and Intel® Products Vietnam met in a Safety Alignment Workshop in August 2006. The workshop gave SHTP the opportunity to learn about Intel's experiences in managing environmental health and safety. This will in turn help SHTP as it seeks to build safety as a value into the park's mission.

SHTP has shown keen interest in developing international standards of environmental protection and employee safety, which it believes can help distinguish it from other high-tech parks in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Intel's commitment to the welfare of its employees, contractors, business partners, and communities is based on the belief that all injuries are preventable, and injuries cannot be considered an acceptable consequence of business. The commitment extends beyond safety and welfare of people to exemplary stewardship for the environment.

Intel has earned numerous recognitions for its environmental health and safety achievements. Here are some examples from countries with assembly test sites like the one under construction in Vietnam:

  • Costa Rica: The National Insurance Institute recognized Intel Costa Rica for the fourth year in a row with the National Safety Award, "Preventico." This is the most prestigious safety and health award presented by any government institution in the country. The Intel site also received the White Flag Award, presented by the Ministry of Health, for outstanding health and safety performance.

  • Malaysia: The government bestowed two of the prime minister's Hibiscus awards on Intel, one for Intel® Technology in Penang, and the other for Intel Products in Kulim. The award is Malaysia's highest recognition of commitment to environmental protection and excellence.

  • Philippines: In June of 2005 the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) awarded Intel Philippines the Outstanding Employer Award for their excellent practices and achievements as an employer in an economic zone.
