Heartwarming fun at Pick a Name, Bless a Child

Intel Involved in the Community, Intel Technology Philippines’ corps of employee volunteers, spread holiday cheer to some 2500 school children of General Trias, Cavite with its Pick a Name, Bless a Child. Now on its 10th year, Pick a Name, Bless a Child has Intel employees acting as godparents of select kids for a day.

Aside from gift giving, the children were treated to a fun afternoon of songs and dances. There was a song and dance number from the General Trias Computer Clubhouse (former Intel–Ayala Computer Clubhouse), a signing contest, and a parol–making competition, too. Winning the singing contest was Warren Villena of Bacao Elementary School. In the parol–making contest, Parklane Elementary School cinched the top prize.

Most heartwarming of all was the moment when the kids whose wishes were granted by or through Intel intercession to relevant parties happened. As Chona Ignalaga, Community Relations Manager explained, these wishes were outstanding because the beneficiaries were not the kids themselves, but their loved ones. Lyra Fame Amparo of Angel Bawalan Elementary School asked for a nebulizer for her mother, who suffers from asthma. Jema Bacale, an 11 year old from Luis Ferrer Elementary High School, and her family has been practically homeless ever since General Trias was devastated by Typhoon Milenyo in 2006. She thanks her teacher, Ms Minnie Umandap, for giving her temporary shelter she tries to finish school. Kenneth Cabrera, a grade 6 student of General Trias Memorial Elementary School, asked for help in treating his skin condition. Jessica Fabellar, another 6th grader (from Parklane Elementary School), also wished for better health, especially by being able to walk again. Young ones who wished for nothing more than food for Noche Buena were: Ronalyn Patricio (Barangay Tapia); Maribel Pilapil (Tapia Elementary School); Riener Reynante (Tejero Elementary School); Erica Montan (Pasong Camachile Elementary School); Shaeven Figalan (Bacao Elementary School); April Joy Buenvenida (Panungyanan Elementary School); Edmark Bien Fajutag and Marlon Jomari Pepito (Pasong Kawayan 1); Joseph Rebaral (Javalera Elementary School); John Cris Iresare (Belvedere Elementary School). Young Riener, who lost his mother, was crying as he was being called to the stage.

Arlita Narag, Corporate Affairs Manager, thanked the Intel Involved volunteers, who were the ones responsible for making Christmas a little bit brighter for the less fortunate… "You made all these happen," she said in a brief speech during the program.
