Winners named in Intel’s Oregon Naturally photo contest
1st Place, "Mt. Washington and Big Lake" by Jason Lindseth
A stunning photo taken by Jason Lindseth, 38, of Cornelius, OR has won the 1st Place prize in the prestigious 2008 Oregon Naturally® digital photo contest presented by Intel Oregon. His winning photo is titled, "Mt. Washington and Big Lake".
As a company deeply committed to environmental stewardship, Intel has been thrilled with the number and quality of the images submitted for the contest. Lindseth’s, which stood out for its vivid beauty conveying Oregon’s natural environment, won against heavy competition from hundreds of entrants.
Oregon Naturally Presented by Intel Oregon is co–sponsored by JELD–WEN Communities, the Oregon Travel Information Council, and KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8. The contest invites travelers to submit color photos of natural scenes they encounter as they explore Oregon. Prizes are awarded each quarter. Lindseth’s 1st Place prize is for the January—March 2008 quarter.
As 1st Place winner, Lindseth will receive a gift certificate from JELD–WEN Communities good for a 5–night vacation at his choice of Running Y Ranch, Eagle Crest Resort, or Brasada Ranch. His photo will also be featured during weather forecasts by Matt Zaffino on KGW and will be posted on the travel section of KGW’s website.
2nd Place, "Summer’s eve in the high desert" by Charlie Mitchell
The 2nd Place winner is Charlie Mitchell, 40, of Grants Pass for "Summer’s eve in the high desert". The 3rd Place winner is John Davis, 65, of Sandy for "Clackamas Spring." Their prizes are 3 nights and 2 nights at JELD–WEN resorts in Oregon.
The contest was created by Intel Oregon to enhance appreciation of Oregon and to increase awareness of Intel’s commitment to sustainability. Photos can be submitted at Intel Oregon’s community website or at selected highway rest stops and state parks around Oregon with wireless internet connections set up by the Oregon Travel Information Council (OTIC).
3rd Place, "Clackamas Spring" by John Davis
The wireless internet service being provided by OTIC is free to the public for access to: real time traffic, weather, and travel services; Oregon State government services; the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department; KGW–TV (NBC) news and weather; and a limited number of sponsored web pages. Beyond the basic free services noted above, travelers visiting the rest stops and state parks participating in the pilot project can also check their e–mail or go to other sites on the internet at minimal cost.
The wireless pilot program reflects the fact that an increasing number of vehicles, particularly motor homes and smaller campers, are carrying computers. Travelers are using them to stay in touch with family and friends, check traffic and weather reports, locate overnight services and local attractions, identify places to visit, and monitor news sites.
