PC recycling and donations

Concerned about a lack of accessibility to technology education and computers in public schools, Intel and the Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) conceived StRUT in 1995. This program has transitioned to Region 9 ESD in The Dalles, OR.

  • Students evaluate, repair and refurbish donated computers and in turn donate those computers to local schools.
  • Students gain valuable skills and schools get free computers.
  • The program started with four schools, and has grown to dozens of Oregon schools participating in StRUT.
  • The program has proliferated to most of Intel's US sites.
  • Intel does not direct nor donate used equipment to specific schools. All used equipment available for school donations is sent to StRUT.
