Community involvement

Investing in the community is an Intel tradition – a way of putting our corporate value of "being an asset in the community" into practice. Every year we contribute funds and Intel Involved Volunteers to dozens of community-based organizations in New Mexico.

Intel is celebrating our 40th anniversary by giving the gift of one million hours of volunteer service to our host communities worldwide. In 2008, the Intel Foundation expanded the education matching grant program worldwide to support both schools and non-profit/non-governmental organizations in all of the communities where we live and work. Volunteer hours will now be matched with donations from the foundation.

Following are a few examples of recent notable donations and volunteer activities:

  • Intel has donated over USD 2 million to the National Hispanic Cultural Center to integrate the latest technology tools at the center. The National Hispanic Cultural Center is the largest facility for the preservation and promotion of Hispanic culture and arts in the United States, and Intel's contribution supports the center's Intel Center for Technology and Visual Arts.

  • Intel has donated over USD 1 million in cash and in-kind donations to enhance the educational component of the new Explora! Science Center and Children's Museum of Albuquerque. In 2007 Intel provided an additional USD 60,000 to Explora! as we continue to support the museum.

  • Intel is a cornerstone sponsor of the Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center, established during 2007 in cooperation with the United Way of New Mexico. The Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center in the heart of downtown Albuquerque is bringing together law enforcement agencies and domestic violence professionals under one roof. The Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center is the first such facility in this state to house the Albuquerque Police Department's entire Crimes Against Children Unit, Sex Crimes Unit, Domestic Violence/Familial Violence Unit, Crisis Outreach and Support Team, members of the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, members of the NM State Police, Staff from the Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office, and numerous community nonprofit domestic violence and sexual assault agencies and county agencies.

  • In 2008, Intel partnered with the City of Albuquerque and KOAT TV to host an Electronic Waste Recycling Event at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Park. The event provided area residents the opportunity to safely and responsibly discard of used electronic equipment in a way that is less harmful to the environment than sending it to a landfill. Over 572,000 pounds of computers, fax machines, printers and other electronics were collected during the event.

  • In 2007 Intel New Mexico site volunteerism reached 54 percent participation, with 2,664 employees volunteering 27,000 hours. World-wide Intel is on track to meet the 1 million hour goal for 2008.

  • Total New Mexico Site investments to New Mexico schools and non-profit organizations in 2008 exceeded USD 950,000.
