About Intel China

Intel Corporation is the world's largest semiconductor chip manufacturer. Founded in 1968, it has 38 years of history in production innovation and market leadership. In 1971, Intel launched the world's first microprocessor. This achievement not only changed the future of Intel, but also had a profound and far-reaching impact on the entire industry. The microprocessor enabled the computer and Internet revolution that changed the world.

Intel in Your Community - China Intel supplies the computing and communications industries with microprocessors, chipsets, boards, systems, and software building blocks that are the "ingredients" of computer architecture and the Internet. These products are used by industry members to create advanced computing and communications systems to the end users.

As a world-leading company in information industry, Intel is committed to integrating all resources to drive the development of complete technology platforms based on Intel ingredient components. "Intel is putting the people and resources in place to sharpen our focus on the development of platforms that meet the demands of our customers and provide innovative and exciting new technologies for the marketplace," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO. "The new organization will help address growth opportunities by better anticipating and addressing market needs, speeding decision making, and ensuring world-class operational excellence. Each operating unit has the autonomy to allocate computing and communications resources to be successful, making Intel's entire structure consistent with our platform products strategy."

Intel in Shanghai

Intel's largest site in China is Shanghai, where the company currently operates three campuses.

Intel China picture Established in 1996, Intel Products (Shanghai) Ltd. is Intel's first assembly and testing facility in China which is located in Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone of Shanghai Pudong New Area. In 2005, a R&D facility Intel Technology Development (SH) Ltd setup in the same campus, which further demonstrate Intel's commitment to support local technology development.

There are three factories in Pudong, namely flash memory device, chipset and CPU factory. The facility provides the world's top assembly and testing services for flash memory chips, chipsets, PentiumŪ 4 processors and the most advanced Due Core microprocessor with 65 nanometer technology and other high performance chips that are used all over the world. The Shanghai facility is now handling 300mm wafers for the first time in China and is assembling and testing products constructed with Intel's leading edge 65 nanometer technology. By now, the facility has over 3,500 employees, and has cultivated a great number of knowledge workers that master the world-class chip assembly and test technology. The facility also becomes one of the most valued export bases (in dollars) in Shanghai. The R&D groups are doing some technology development, focusing on Flash silicon design, Chip package development, and Digital Home system development.

At Shanghai Mart in Changning District, Intel employees are engaged in sales, marketing, and administration.

Intel's third campus in Shanghai is located in Zizhu Science-based Industrial Park in Minhang District. It is the home for Intel Asia-Pacific Research and Development Ltd., a full-scale R&D facility focusing on product development and platform-level innovations from all major Intel product and technology groups, including Software and Solution Group, Digital Home Group, Digital Enterprise Group, Mobility Group, Digital Health Group and Information Services & Technology Group. The campus is also the headquarters of Intel's Channel Platforms Group (CPG). This is the first time that Intel has headquartered a corporate business unit outside of the U. S. CPG's charter is to expand Intel's worldwide presence by accelerating global channel growth through innovative business models and platform solutions tailored to meet local market needs. In addition, one of Intel's four platform definition centers (PDC) is also located in Intel Zizhu campus. These definition centers identify environmental considerations and marketplace requirements specific to each geographic region in order to define locally relevant computing solutions based on IntelŪ technology.

Intel in Chengdu, Sichuan

Signing of the memorandum In August 2003, Intel announced to construct a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Sichuan Province. Intel Products (Chengdu) Ltd. was established to execute the project and operate the facility. In March 2005, Intel announced additional investment to construct Phase II factory, a state of the art model facility to assemble and test Intel's most advanced microprocessors. The first factory is in full operation now to produce chipset. The Chengdu facility is not only an integral part of Intel's global semiconductor assembly and testing facilities network, but also demonstrates Intel's commitment to China in terms of growing the local market, workforce development as well as to supporting the country's agenda of the "Go West" Campaign. As the company grows and develops its people, particular attention is paid to developing local leaders into global leaders by providing practical leadership and management opportunities that will enable them to work in cross cultural teams and impact the entire virtual factory.
