Addressing climate change through product development
In 2006, Intel introduced new energy–efficient processors using its new Intel® Core™ microarchitecture. One example is the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor for desktops which are not only faster, but more than 40 percent more energy efficient than previous–generation Intel desktop processors.
Reducing global emissions, saving energy
In 2006, Intel joined the U.S. EPA’s Climate Leaders program, pledging to reduce its global GHG emissions by 30 percent per production unit from 2004 to 2010. Since 2001, Intel has implemented more than 200 projects that have saved over 400 million kWh in its facilities.
Improving commuting options
In 2006 and again in 2007 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named Intel as the best workplace for commuters. Intel topped the EPA's list for its variety of commuter benefits that are offered through Intel's RideShare commuting program.
Since 1990 Intel Santa Clara has been working to keep the Bay Area's air clean and Silicon Valley's roads less clogged by encouraging Intel employees to use RideShare. RideShare provides commuting alternatives to single occupant vehicles. RideShare includes carpooling using an on–line ridematching service, and programs that promote biking, walking, and the use of public transportation. Intel provides subsidies to employees who use Caltrain, the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) train, and Capitol Corridor/AMTRAK train.
Recycling at the source
Intel Santa Clara provides stations for Intel employees to recycle batteries, paper, cardboard, cans and bottles. Because of the effort to sort recyclable material Intel Santa Clara recycles more than 65% of its solid waste.
