AMT features to Your Application

Start a new software project today on the Intel Software Partner Program web site, and put Intel AMT 4.0 to work for you and your customers.

and Gain a Competitive Edge

Bring new network-management capabilities to market with your manageability application when you add the latest Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) features to your software. Start a new project in the Manageability Technology Focus Area with the Intel® Software Partner Program to add the latest Intel AMT features.

Take advantage of new features for notebook and desktop business PCs based on Intel® vPro™ Technology using Intel AMT 4.0. Intel AMT allows out-of band communication with a management console, even when the PC is powered off or the operating system is non-functional or missing, and the latest version adds significantly to those capabilities.

Enabling for the latest Intel AMT features can give your management software a competitive advantage by supporting the out-of-band usage models described below.
Intel AMT Use Cases
Fast Call for Help: Manage Clients Outside the Firewall. Most IT organizations need to support mobile and remote workers, whether they are travelling or working from home.
  • The problem: Traditionally, management consoles haven't been able to use the Intel AMT features of client machines when they are outside the firewall, and users may even need to come into a corporate site to get the assistance they need.
  • The solution: Intel AMT 4.0's Fast Call for Help feature lets remote notebook and desktop business PCs use Intel vPro Technology to set up a secure connection to the management network over the Internet. Help desks and system administrators can manage the client machine just as if it were on-site.
  • The benefit: This capability safeguards productivity of the mobile/remote workforce and improves compliance for software updates, inventory, and audits.

Secure Audit Log: Improve Auditor Capabilities. Oversight of system administrators is an important consideration for all organizations, especially those in regulated industries.
  • The problem: The ability to effectively audit system administrators can be compromised by the control those individuals have over the systems being used to perform the audit.
  • The solution: Intel AMT 4.0's Audit Log feature provides for the creation of the Auditor access control list permission within a network. The Auditor defines policies to log certain activities on the network, outside the control of anyone else, including system administrators, although those logs can be viewed by others.
  • The benefit: Keeping control of the audit process outside the control of system administrators provides more robust oversight, for improved security and regulatory compliance.

Microsoft NAP Support: Open New Windows to Management. As customers implement Microsoft Windows* Server 2008, many wish to use the Network Access Protection (NAP) feature, to control access to resources based on a client computer’s identity and compliance with corporate policies.
  • The problem: Existing management solutions are typically unable to make full use of Microsoft NAP's capabilities, including accessing them through Intel AMT out-of-band access.
  • The solution: Intel AMT 4.0 NAP Support allows Intel AMT to gain out-of-band access to a Microsoft NAP-enabled 802.1x network to enable software updates, inventories, remote diagnostics, etc.
  • The benefit: By supporting Microsoft NAP, management software has a powerful capability for helping to enforce corporate compliance that also keeps abreast of the latest operating system innovations.

Wireless Management: Improve Manageability over Wi-Fi. Wireless LANs are the connectivity of choice in many organizations, and full management over Wi-Fi has become an expected feature.

  • The problem: Previous versions of Intel AMT allowed out-of-band management over the Wi-Fi interface, but only if the system was in the powered-on (S0) operating state (i.e., not standby, hibernate, powered off, etc.).
  • The solution: With Intel AMT 4.0's improved wireless management capability, the management console can manage any system connected to AC power over the Wi-Fi interface1, regardless of its power state.
  • The benefit: This capability allows operations such as remote management, repair, inventory, and audit to be performed over the Wi-Fi interface with robustness and flexibility similar to the wired interface.1
