, Gujarat, January 13, 2009: The Government of Gujarat State and Intel Technology India Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to roll out the Intel World Ahead program in the state of Gujarat in a phased manner. The Intel World Ahead Program is Intel’s initiative towards bridging the Digital divide by providing citizens access to technology, improving connectivity, improving education through the use of technology and creating local language content for consumption of citizens.
The MOU establishes a collaborative relationship in initiatives in education, remote health care, Broadband and employability. The MoU was signed by R. Sivakumar, Managing Director, Sales and Marketing, Intel South Asia, and the Government of Gujarat.
As a part of the proposed initiatives, Intel shall scale existing World Ahead initiatives and introduce new initiatives in the State of Gujarat to enable classroom teachers effectively integrate technology for enhancing student learning for preparing children for 21st century learning skills; enabling Model schools for ICT integration; entrepreneurship for youth in the state; advising the Government for the success of Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana through ICT based initiatives in education, connectivity and health; connecting the unconnected for last mile connectivity for access to internet through broadband technologies to deliver education and health services in tribal areas..
Intel will be extending its Intel Teach program for government school teachers as part of government SSA and secondary school computerization and teacher professional development projects. Intel has been working in Gujarat since 2002 and has till recently completed training of more than 1 lakh school teachers and teacher educators on how to integrate technology to improve teaching and learning with support from Gujarat state board, SSA department and six teacher education universities.
Intel will facilitate partners and structure the initial rollout of e-PCO initiative, availability of the right hardware solution to its channels and training on no-obligation basis.
