Introduction
Intel® software for UPnP* technology* offers technology developers the tools to facilitate the planning and research and development stages in the early product development life cycle. The software is based on UPnP architecture and technology, an industry initiative established by the UPnP* Forum, and provides a foundation for opportunities to create easy-to-use home networking products.

These stacks are offered without any support and are intended to be used in early standards development and validation.

What is UPnP Technology and What Does it Improve?
UPnP technology is a distributed, open networking architecture that employs TCP/IP and other Internet technologies to enable seamless proximity networking, in addition to control and data transfer among networked devices in the home, office, and public spaces.

But what does that mean to people who don't work with technology, or consider it a relaxing pastime? They want simple products that work easily with each other, without any technical knowledge of "gadgetware" on their part.

UPnP technology enables developers to create such products—products that free their customers from thinking about network configurations, setup, maintenance, software or Internet protocols.

When millions of people can install, operate, and maintain their purchases with little concern for the mechanics of networking, the business opportunity for the home networking market segment can grow.

What Solutions Does Intel Offer?
Intel has been working since 1999 to make easy-to-use, connected products a reality with UPnP technology. Intel continues to develop UPnP-enabled solutions that help reduce development costs and bring products to market faster.

Intel software for UPnP technologies offers the early-adopter a unique opportunity to discover the latest in-development standards and technologies. These stacks are offered without any support and are intended to be used in early standards development and validation.

Intel also offers Intel® Networked Media Product Requirements Version 2.0 (Intel® NMPR v.2.0) conformant tools and stacks with detailed developer documentation and limited technical support ready for use in the development of Intel NMPR v.2.0 interoperable products for the digital home. History of Innovation: Intel Research and Development and UPnP Technology
Intel research and development teams have long worked to advance UPnP technology and the vision of easy-to-use, digital connectivity for consumers. Intel released the computing industry's first-ever software development kit for UPnP technology under an open source software distribution license in 2000.

Intel also co-founded the UPnP Forum, an association of more than 500 companies working together to develop interoperable specifications and standards for easy-to-use home networking.
