UPnP* Protocol

The UPnP* (Universal Plug and Play) protocol is an industry standard which defines the automatic Discovery, Configuration, Control and Eventing mechanism for the interoperability between PC and Consumer Electronics devices. The UPnP team in Intel China Software Center was established in 2003. The major software products that the team developed include the Intel® Development Toolkit for UPnP* technologies and the Intel® Development Toolkit for Intel® NMPR v2.0, which were officially launched in June, 2004 and December, 2004 respectively. These toolkits provide high-quality reference stacks and valuable authoring, debugging, validation tools, to help ISVs and device vendors accelerate their product development of UPnP* 1.0, DLNA* 1.0 or NMPR 2.0 conformant software and devices. Looking forward, the UPnP team will continue to build Intel-silicon-based platform middleware infrastructure for Digital Home devices, and focus more on the Consumer Electronics, Cellular and Handheld devices. One of the challenges is to identify and capitalize the emerging opportunities in the Digital Home sector in APAC region and deliver scalable/profitable business models for Intel.
