On October 19th, 21st and 23rd, with the theme of “Moblin Is Open”, Moblin
RoadShows were successfully delivered respectively in Beijing, Shanghai and
Shenzhen. Together with Moblin Partners, Intel has demonstrate the huge
competitive advantage and the latest achievements of Intel® Atom™ processor and
Moblin platform in the applications of MID, netbooks and IVI systems. These
RoadShows are intended to stimulate the passion of ISV and developers to develop
more mobile applications, bring more innovative applications for consumers and
boost the development of mobile Internet era.
Moblin is an open source project that supports Linux-based software platform and
is optimized for the next generation of mobile devices including netbooks,
mobile Internet devices (MIDs), in-vehicle infotainment systems, and other
embedded devices.
Dr. Bob Liang, General Manager of Intel Asia-Pacific R&D. Ltd., delivered a
keynote at the RoadShow. He said, “Supported and driven by a number of industry
partners, Moblin has got rapid development and gratifying application, since
released. Besides the mobile field like netbook and MID, we are very pleased to
see Moblin has been applied in embedded systems and rural informatization in
China. The growing demand for mobile Internet will stimulate more software and
applications innovation around Moblin, to create the future of the mobile
Internet”
Intel will release Moblin v2.1 by the end of 2009. Based on Moblin v2.0, Moblin
v2.1 will include many community and customer requested enhancements; for
example, support for additional nettop screen resolutions, myzone improvements,
IM improvements, better language support, updated kernel, Moblin Garage, Moblin
Application Installer, 3G data support, and Bluetooth. The Moblin v2.1 release
timing for other user experiences, such as MID, IVI and embedded devices, will
align with the availability and release of those hardware platforms.
At the “2009 Animation Rendering and High-Performance
Computing Forum” held in Beijing recently, Inspur* and Intel
displayed their own 4S solution based on local application
and advanced application technology coming out of
DreamWorks*. The exhibition has attracted great attention.
The two sides indicated they would help improve the quality
of Chinese domestic animation and to make contribution to
the creation of China's "DreamWorks" and "Disney". The
commitment would be realized through local application
exploration and the introduction of international advanced
technologies.
As the head of technical support team for DreamWorks*, Chief
Engineer of Intel Software and Services Group, Ram Ramanujam
said, “For DreamWorks, Intel has utilized a lot of
multi-core and many-core processors, designed and optimized
for animation rendering. And through custom oriented
optimized software and clustering structure solution, the
bottleneck problems in applications could be addressed. In
the future, the new Larabbe architecture processors and
Stereo 3D technology will also be fully committed to
construct a new DreamWorks style viewing experience.”
Liu Jun, GM of High Performance Servers Group of Inspur*,
expressed that Inspur* is working with Intel to carry out
extensive cooperation in animation rendering. “We hope to
make full use of the cooperation and provide Chinese
animation users with not only the best hardware platforms,
solutions, but also the world’s leading resources, producing
ideas and business practices of rendering technology, in
order to help domestic animation in line with international
standards. This is our expectation for the collaboration
with Intel. ”
On 14th Oct, Intel and Wuxi city in Jiangsu Province signed
a MOU, announcing the establishment of the Intel China
Center of Parallel Computing (ICCPC) in the city. With
Wuxi’s geographical and technological advantages, ICCPC
targets to be a world-class technology center, promoting the
innovation and research in parallel computing. The center
will also help Chinese IT industry seize opportunities of
innovation in multi-core era and become the leader in the
field of parallel computing.
As Intel's first cooperative parallel computing center
around the world, the ICCPC is jointly funded by Intel and
the local government and will start operation in 2010 under
the management of Beijing SoftTech Technologies Co., Ltd.*
According to the plan, Intel will provide the center with
free software and pertinent training and counseling and help
the latter develop advanced parallel computing software
technologies, particularly, throughput and visual computing.
Meanwhile, it will support China's independent software
builders with the latest tile processors, including
to-be-released new Larrabee architecture, and form
partnerships with colleges and universities, research
institutes and industrial players, assisting their R&D based
on its platforms.
Currently, parallel computing has become widely used in all
works of life. As a result, more pertinent applications are
needed. Fully using the high performance of its multi-core
processors, Intel promoted program and software development
kits like Intel® Parallel Studio, which will optimize the
design of parallel programs.
