Overview

Print this page
Launched in South Africa in early 2003, Intel® Teach – Essentials helps educators gain competence and confidence to use technology to help deliver learning goals and curriculum requirements. Intel Teach – Essentials was developed in close collaboration with educators and leading academic institutions and has been rewritten to align with the South African national curriculum The programme offers comprehensive, yet flexible training that utilizes the effectiveness of hands-on, face-to-face professional development.

Curriculum

Trainings consist of 40 hours of face-to-face instruction, covering ten modules. Topics include use of the Internet, Web page design, multimedia presentations and learner publications. Emphasis is on the effective use of technology in the classroom and educators are shown how to incorporate critical questions into their unit and lessons plans to promote student inquiry and higher-level thinking. By integrating technology into student activities, educators also enable pupils to communicate learning in creative and individual ways.

Training Model

The programme operates a train-the-trainer model. Intel, in partnership with the MECs of Education, will recruit and train Facilitators (educators who already possess proficient ICT skills) from all different provinces in South Africa. Facilitator training will take place at Provincial Training Sessions organised by SchoolNet SA. Following their comprehensive training, Facilitators will then be able to train colleagues locally in schools in their own districts using the Intel Teach – Essentials curriculum. Learn more ›*

Get Involved

One Facilitator per school is invited to attend Facilitator training organised at a central venue in each province during every holiday period. The training is offered completely free of charge. Once certified, Facilitators then return to their schools and deliver the course to their colleagues. Wherever possible, these Facilitators then organise courses for neighbouring schools and educators. To find out more about the programme, visit our training agency website.
