The main gateway to Malaysia is through the new K.L. International Airport at Sepang located approximately 50km south of Kuala Lumpur. KL International Airport is close to Malaysia's Administration Capital - Putrajaya. Putrajaya, the country's new administrative centre is within 20 minutes away from KLIA and will be a major boost for investment and trade.

 
International Arrivals
 
 
For passengers of international flights arriving at the Satellite Building, they must board the Aero train to the Main Terminal Building (MTB).  ›
You will arrive at the mezzanine level of the contact pier and take the escalators down to the arrival level (level 3).

Immigration
There are a total of 48 Immigration counters for arriving passengers and another 16 for transfer passengers. All foreigners are required to complete a disembarkation card before reaching this counter.

Trolleys
Complimentary luggage trolleys are available within the baggage reclaim area. Hand luggage trolleys are available outside arrival gates. Trolley can be obtained from the arrival hall at free of charge. For baggage claim, trolleys are available at the baggage carousel.

Baggage Allowance
Baggage allowance depends on the departing countries. There are 12 baggage conveyors identified by alphabets A to M ('I' has been omitted). Two conveyors (L and M) are dedicated to domestic arrivals while the remaining 10 are for international arrivals.

A total of 26 Customs lanes are located beyond the Baggage Reclaim area.

Prohibited Goods
The trafficking of Dangerous Drugs in Malaysia is a serious offence that carries a mandatory death sentence.
A special permit is required to carry firearms and ammunition. Other items prohibited include flick knives, daggers and pornographic material. ›
Taped video cassettes should be submitted for clearance by customs.

Plant Quarantine
All passengers must declare the following items to the Plant Quarantine Office upon arrival: plants and other plant parts including fresh plant produce, processed products, soil and growth / rooting media, insects and other organisms, micro-organisms, herbarium and dried flowers. Penalty for failure to do so is up to RM1,000 find or up to six months’ imprisonment or both.

Penalty for maliciously introducing a pest or a plant into Malaysia carries a fine not exceeding two years, or both.

Passengers from South and Central America and Central Africa are required to report to the Plant Quarantine Office.

Duty-Free
Visitors entering Malaysia for a period not less than 72 hours, except from Labuan (24 hours) and Langkawi (48 hours), enjoy exemption on the following purchases:
Wines, spirits / malt liquor not exceeding 1 litre. ›
Tobacco not exceeding 225gms, or 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars.

Except for the last item, exemption items must be for personal use only. A 30% tax will be levied on items that exceed the limits noted.

Information Counter
KLIA Information counters are located at strategic areas within the MTB and Satellite A. Information on local tours, currency exchange counter and taxi counters are also available at the arrival hall.

If you have yet to check-in your luggage, do so at this level.

Departure Gates
Only passengers with boarding passes are allowed into the departure area. Please present your boarding pass to the security personnel at the entrance of the departure area, before proceeding to Immigration. In the interest of security, only passengers with valid boarding passes will be allowed into specific Departure Lounges. Present your boarding pass at the entrance of the Departure Lounge. You are advised to proceed to the Departure Lounge at least 30 minutes before departure time.

The Departure Level is on Level 5 of the MTB, and caters to both domestic and international departures. There are a total of 216 check-in counters along six lanes, identified by alphabets A to M (excluding I). For tour groups, check-in counters are available at the Ground Level of MTB. Ticket prices would already include a Passenger Service Charge (PSC) of RM45.00 for international passengers or RM6.00 for domestic passengers. All domestic and some international departures are from the MTB while Sat. A caters solely to international departures. The MTB is linked, by an automated train shuttle, with the four-armed satellite building (Satellite A) where international passengers make connections to other flights.

All 2006 Intel Asia Academic Forum faculty participants are to be picked up from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). KL International Airport is located approximately 50 km to the south of Kuala Lumpur. By car, the drive from the airport usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on volume of traffic. Assigned forum personnel (wearing an official event badge and carrying a signboard displaying the event name and logo) will wait for each faculty participant at the passenger arrival area. The faculty participant will then be escorted to a bus which also displays the event theme logo. For your convenience, these vehicles have been provided with umbrellas, mineral water, tissue, newspapers and first aid kits. For individual arrival, you will be greeted by assigned forum personnel.

 
To The Airport
 
 

On 16th November, buses will be available to take the faculty members to KLIA. Other mode of transportation will be taxi. Journey to KLIA, which is about 70 km from KL City will take about an hour (depends on the traffic). As international flight require 2 hours to check in, it is advisable to leave the hotel minimum 3 hours before flight.
